A New Beginning for Families Leaving the NICU

When a family leaves the NICU, they are stepping into the unknown.

At NEST Healthworks Foundation, we stand with them. We offer education, support, and real solutions for a safer and stronger journey home.

The NEST Healthworks Foundation is the nonprofit arm of NEST Healthworks. We are focused on bridging critical gaps in care for families with newborns transitioning from the NICU to home.

Founded by Rachael Zastrow, a nationally recognized Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and past President of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, our mission is personal. After decades of caring for fragile newborns and their families, Rachael saw firsthand the gap between hospital discharge and home life. NEST Healthworks Foundation was created to close that gap.

No parent should feel alone. No baby should fall through the cracks.

What We Do

Family education and caregiving support

We teach parents what they need to know. From feeding and sleep strategies to recognizing early warning signs, we help families feel confident and prepared.

Transitional care services

We help families manage medical needs at home, coordinate follow up care, and create safer environments for fragile newborns.

Advocacy and family support

We make sure families have the supplies they need to care for their babies at home. This includes diapers, safe sleep spaces, feeding supplies, medical equipment, and other essentials that give every newborn the best possible start.

How Can You Help

Donate

The transition home from the NICU can be overwhelming, and it often comes with unexpected costs.

Many premature and medically fragile babies need supplies like feeding pumps, apnea monitors, oxygen equipment, and safe sleep spaces that can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Some insurances do not fully cover these items, leaving families with expenses they cannot manage during an already stressful time.

Your donation helps bridge that gap.

A portable apnea monitor can cost over $1,200

A hospital-grade breast pump can cost over $1,500

A safe sleep space and supplies can cost $300 or more

Specialized feeding equipment and supplies can add hundreds of dollars more each month

Every gift, large or small, helps us provide the essentials families need to bring their babies home safely.

Partner

We work with hospitals, healthcare providers, corporations, and community organizations to expand access to critical care supplies and education. If your organization wants to support families during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives, we would love to connect.

Sponsor a Family

You or your organization can directly sponsor a family transitioning home. Your sponsorship can provide the supplies, education, and emotional support they need to succeed during their first critical months at home.
