Community Health Starts with Empowered Nurses

1–2 minutes

When we think about saving babies, we picture NICUs, incubators, and doctors. But real impact begins with education, especially for the frontline nurses caring for newborns in rural hospitals.

In my work across Wisconsin’s Level I- IV NICUs, I’ve been the only provider in-house. Nurses are often the first to recognize distress, initiate resuscitation, and comfort frightened families. But training opportunities are limited, especially in smaller hospitals.

That’s why our Community Health Trainings at The NEST Foundation are not optional. They’re essential. We equip nurses with updated protocols, culturally responsive education, and simulation-based learning that builds real-world confidence.

Health equity starts with the providers who show up first and we’re making sure they show up ready.
